I was surprised when I saw Mimi at the hotel where Kayla and I were staying. She looked more surprised to see us than we were to see her. I didn’t give a fuck about her tears. She shouldn’t have kept my daughter a secret. What woman you know would do that? Not one in her right mind, that’s for damn sure. No matter what went down, she shouldn’t have stayed away from her daughter—period.

Kayla was happy, though. She’s been talking about her mother since she last saw her. I wasn’t too thrilled, but as long as my daughter was happy, so was I. After getting the keys to our room, I took her out to get a bite to eat, then we went to the mall to get us some clothes because we didn’t come here with any. As we were shopping, I got a call from Mimi asking me where we were. Once I told her that we were at the mall, she said that she would be there in a minute. Since we were already finished, we waited for her in the food court area. When she did show up, she had her other kids with her.

“Thanks for letting me spend some time with her,” she said to me.

“No problem, but I see that you’re finally taking me serious this time,” I replied. I was talking about Kayla getting the chance to meet her brothers and sister.

She just waved my comment off. I turned to say good-bye to my daughter, then I left.

I went back to the hotel room and chilled for a minute. With nothing to do, I decided to call Kaylin.

“What’s ’sup, playboy?” I said as he answered the phone.

“Ain’t shit, I’m just living. What’s up with you?”

“Ain’t shit, man. I’m in yo’ town right now,” I said.

“Oh, yeah, man? Where you at?” he asked.

“I’m chillin’ in my hotel room.”

“All right, man, take down this address that I’m about to give you,” he replied, reciting an address.

“Where I’m coming to, nigga?” I asked him.

“That’s the address to Mimi’s club. I’m over here getting everything ready for the concert at the club tonight,” he replied.

“All right, homie, I’ll be there in a minute.”

“For sure. See you when you get here,” he said.

“Bet.”

I shook my head and sat there, smoking a blunt. Then I left my room and made my way to Mimi’s club to meet Kaylin. This nigga really didn’t know what’s coming to him, I thought.
